Carolina - Scoliosis Patient

Before:

I had been dealing with scoliosis most of my life and although mostly manageable, it greatly deteriorated post partum. I tried many things to manage the pain - physio, chiro, osteo, acupuncture, remedial massages, infrared saunas as well as other alternative medicines and supplements. On very painful days I would hit the prescription medication but this has always been very few and far between for me. During this time I found scolio pilates, a specific training method for my condition and although it helped reset my system, it did not solve any problems. And every now and again I found myself experiencing significant set backs. I was mostly operating at a 5-6 level pain, but this could reach the 8s and 9s on my worse days. The debilitating pain I would occasionally feel, coupled with my new physical appearance and evident back deformity started to take a toll on my mental health. I had started to resign myself that this cycle would just be my reality. I became scared to move too much, in case I was creating more dysfunctions in my body. Resting seemed to be one of the only things that could provide relief, which was very hard to achieve with a 5yr old in tow...

At first I was sceptical, I think most people in my situation would have been too, but even just starting the 10 week course and getting into the MFR was a game changer. The incessant pain I had felt in my right hip disappeared within a week, and adding the 1:1 coaching sessions started to build muscle connections I didn't even know existed. I started to feel stronger, more confident that I was, and would be, ok. I have regained a new level of confidence and belief in myself, my ability to help myself, and my physical outlook for the remainder of my life. Although I am not pain free, (those few weeks at the start were really the dream!) I am now usually at a 2-3 with worse days going up to a 4 or 5 at most. I have experienced rebound effect along the way, but this has quickly recalibrated and what would once upon a time rendered me bed bound for days or weeks at a time, is quickly resolved after a day or 2. I am feeling stronger and more capable, more open in my body. Like there is more room to move whilst moving much better.

Having someone to focus specifically on my body and my condition has been amazing. I feel reassured and very confident that I am on a path to heal from the bottom up, making permanent changes to my foundations which is only going to serve to improve my life longer term. Your knowledge and ability to explain things have been incredible, I feel like I have learned a lot, although I am certainly not ready to go at it alone! I feel safer working with an expert, who can see things that I cannot see.

Functional Patterns all the way!!! I am a true believer and tell anyone and everyone I come across about this program, or as I call it, way of life. I had always been great at managing my nutrition and had a great understanding of my body. But it is the deeper connection that FP makes that changes your life. I feel like this should be integrated into schools and certainly advocated by medical professionals. Especially for people with my condition, but absolutely everyone can benefit from this training. It has given me much clarity and hope for my physical being over the many years yet to come.
